The Stage That Changed Everything — And What It's About to Become

There are places that hold memories.

And then there are places that shape lives.

For generations of Finneytown students, the William R. Swartzel Performing Arts Center has been more than an auditorium. It has been where students found confidence, discovered talents, celebrated milestones, and created memories that have lasted a lifetime.

That stage almost never existed.

Shared Vision

In the early 1970s, educator William Swartzel believed Finneytown students deserved a true performing arts center, not just a multipurpose room.

It was an ambitious idea, but he wasn't alone. Parents, community members, and school leaders came together to make that vision a reality. Petitions were signed. Money was raised. Plans were made. Bold dreams were brought to fruition. When the Performing Arts Center opened in 1975, it became one of the most important gathering places in our schools.

For fifty years, students have stepped onto that stage to perform, grow, and discover what they're capable of.

More Than a Building

Every alum has a PAC memory.

A concert. A musical. A speech. A standing ovation.

Those moments reflect what makes Finneytown special. We believe students should have the opportunity to explore academics, arts, athletics, and leadership. We build confidence by giving students the chance to try, perform, and grow together.

The PAC has helped make that possible for generations.

The Next Chapter

After five decades of serving our community, the Performing Arts Center is ready for its next act.

This fall, the Legacy Project will continue modernizing the PAC with updated seating, lighting, technology, accessibility improvements, and refreshed spaces that better serve students, audiences, and the community. Alongside the renovation of the Competition Gym, these projects will preserve two of Finneytown's most important gathering places for decades to come.

The goal isn't to replace what generations have loved.

It's to ensure today's students and tomorrow's students have the same opportunities to create memories of their own.

Continuing the Legacy

William Swartzel's vision gave generations of Wildcats a place to find their voice.

Now it's our turn to carry that vision forward.

Every person who shares this story, reconnects with Finneytown, or supports the Legacy Project helps invest in the experiences that will shape the next generation.

Because legacy isn't just about remembering where we've been.

It's about building what comes next.
